The Flower Prescription: How Flowers Became My Medicine

I feel incredibly fortunate in the life I live. Through my work—tea parties, weddings, celebrations, and even funerals—I witness some of the most intimate relationships people have, especially between mothers and daughters. Every time I see that bond, my heart glows quietly inside. There’s something magical and mystical about it, and I often think about how lucky that kind of connection is.

My own journey into motherhood took a different shape. I have devoted my life to being a mother to my son, ensuring he feels deeply loved, supported, and safe. No matter his age, I will always pick up the phone, always adore him, always be his biggest fan. Being a mother has come naturally to me in the most profound way. I am a true single mother—my son has never met his father—and yet I have never felt less than whole in that role. If anything, it strengthened me.

Still, like all of us, I carry longings. Recently, while driving down the hill to work, I received the third message that week nudging me toward something tender: my relationship with my own mother. My mom is an incredible woman. I wouldn’t be who I am without her. I became financially independent at 18, grew into a true artist and designer, and built a life through hard work and intuition. And yet, I realized I deeply wanted something more—a lighter, warmer, more playful mother-daughter relationship. The kind where you gossip sweetly, go to lunch, laugh, and feel energetically safe.

That day, I picked up the phone and told her the truth. I told her I wanted a genuine relationship for the rest of our lives. One rooted in ease, consistency, and love. I truly believe healing that bond could heal many other places in my life, too.

As I spoke to her, I found myself explaining something else I’ve been quietly carrying for years: The Flower Prescription.

For a long time, I couldn’t quite articulate what it was. I knew it in my body, in my spirit, but not in words. I had cultivated flower medicine intuitively for years, almost privately, for my own emotional safety, grounding, and healing. Flowers helped me feel connected, energized, supported, and not alone. They spoke to me in ways I trusted deeply.

The Flower RX Subscription officially came to life in July 2025 as a 12-month series, but I kept it low-key. I was doing everything—weddings, tea parties, celebrity events, wrapping up my book, running a business. Too many lanes, not enough stillness. And yet, the boxes kept selling quietly. People were ordering, but many didn’t fully understand what they were receiving.

Here’s the truth: The Flower Prescription is not about receiving another box and feeling a fleeting hit of joy. This is not an Amazon-style purchase that loses its meaning after 24 hours. This is about cultivating real change in your life.

Each month has a specific intention—alignment, strength, release, stillness, gratitude, love. I begin by asking one simple question: What is the medicine needed for this month? I work directly with the farm, receive the flowers, meditate with them, and listen. I let the flowers speak. I then write the prescription—the emotional, spiritual, and energetic guidance for that month.

These are farm-fresh grower bunches—50 to 100 stems—shipped directly to the client, or as I lovingly call them, the patient. No florist anywhere is doing this in this way. It doesn’t get fresher. It doesn’t get more intentional.

The flowers are meant to live with you. Around your home. In your space. They are there to help you set boundaries, quiet the ego, ground your energy, reconnect to nature, and return to yourself. This is a wellness practice—spiritual, emotional, and energetic.

The subscription is flexible. You can gift it once, choose a single month, or subscribe for several months. It is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give someone you truly adore—especially someone who is seeking clarity, peace, confidence, or healing.

I promise you this medicine works—because I live it. During Gratitude month, I manifested not one horse, but two. Something I had dreamed of my entire life but never thought I’d actually do. The flowers gave me the strength, confidence, and grounding to stand tall and say yes to my dreams.

Being a woman entrepreneur, a mother, a leader, and a sensitive soul on this planet isn’t easy. The Flower Prescription is how I stay rooted. It’s how I spread positivity. It’s how I give back through beauty.

If you’re reading this and something inside you feels called, I invite you to give yourself—or someone you love—the gift of flower medicine. Open the box intentionally. Put on music. Play. Be present. Let the flowers work with you.

Thank you for supporting me for over 30 years. From my heart to yours, I promise you this: The Flower RX Subscription can change your life—one month, one intention, one bloom at a time.

With love,
Jenny Barker – The Flower Doctor
