There are moments in life where you realize you are off-balance.
Not dramatically. Not loudly. Quietly.
You feel it in your nervous system. In your sleep. In the way your shoulders carry weight. In the way your mind keeps spinning even when your body is exhausted.
And for me, the way back has always been nature.
The plants. The horses. The dog. My son. The trails. The silence between all the noise.
Getting lost outside reminds me who I actually am underneath the deadlines, phones ringing, flower counts, delivery schedules, invoices, traffic, and expectations. Nature has a way of recalibrating the nervous system. Flowers especially do this for me. They always have.
As the owner of Magical Blooms for over 30 years, Mother’s Day is the biggest floral holiday of the year. It is beautiful, emotional, exciting, inspiring, and incredibly intense all at once.
Most people see the finished bouquet.
What they do not see is the two months of preparation beforehand.
The ordering.
The flower farms.
The shipping logistics.
The container sourcing.
The staffing.
The refrigeration.
The timing.
The conditioning of flowers.
The design planning.
The route mapping.
The customer communication.
The hope that every stem arrives fresh and beautiful.
We start preparing for Mother’s Day long before most people even realize it’s approaching. We begin reaching out to clients weeks in advance because this holiday matters deeply to us. Every arrangement that leaves our shop carries emotion with it. These flowers are not just products. They are messages.
They say:
“I love you.”
“I appreciate you.”
“I see you.”
“Thank you for everything you do.”
At our flower shop, we hold the energy for people during one of the most emotional holidays of the year. Families rely on us to help them express love correctly. That is a huge responsibility and one we never take lightly.
And despite the pressure, I absolutely love it.
Mother’s Day means peonies everywhere. Buckets overflowing with color. The scent of spring flowers filling the coolers. Designers laughing while creating. Music playing in the background. Delivery drivers moving nonstop. Controlled chaos mixed with beauty.
There is something magical about seeing people come together to celebrate mothers.
But here is something I genuinely do not understand.
Mother’s Day is not a surprise.
As adults, we know the date is coming every single year. Yet so many people wait until the last possible moment to plan something meaningful for the women they love. Then comes the stress, sold-out restaurants, limited flower availability, packed schedules, and panic.
Instead, plan ahead.
Make the reservation early.
Write the thoughtful card.
Choose something beautiful she would never buy herself.
Plan the day with intention.
And absolutely send the flowers.
Flowers are not “extra.”
Flowers change the energy of a space instantly.
A mother holds the energy of a home.
She creates warmth.
She creates comfort.
She creates peace.
She creates stability.
She raises children while balancing emotional labor most people never even see.
Mothers make homes beautiful not only through decoration, but through presence.
That deserves acknowledgment.
That deserves gratitude.
That deserves beauty.
Flowers become reflections of personality. Some mothers are soft garden roses. Some are vibrant peonies. Some are calming hydrangeas. Some are wild branches that refuse to break under pressure. Every arrangement tells a story.
This Mother’s Day, slow down enough to honor her properly.
Not out of obligation.
Out of respect.
And while we prepare thousands of flowers at the shop this week, I am reminding myself of something important too:
Everything will get done.
Every arrangement will go out.
Every designer is doing their best.
Every flower carries intention.
All we can do is pour our hearts into the work.
And that is exactly what we will continue to do.
