Research has shown that pleasant scents can influence mood and emotion, and our sense of smell is deeply connected to the parts of the brain involved with memory and emotion. That’s why a fragrance can instantly take you back to a person, a place, a wedding, an anniversary, or another meaningful moment.
Think about flowers. We place them at entrances, in hotel lobbies, at weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations because they welcome us and completely change the feeling of a space.

When someone gives you flowers, there is usually an emotion attached to them: Happy Birthday. I love you. Get well soon. Congratulations. I’m thinking of you.
And that fragrance can become connected to the memory.
So later, when you smell that flower again, your brain can bring back the emotion too. I was loved. I was cared for. Someone was thinking about me. Research on odor and memory supports this powerful connection between scent and emotional recall.
Flowers bring nature indoors. They can make a space feel fresher, calmer and more alive.
So I wouldn’t call flowers an antidepressant. I would say something even more powerful because it’s scientifically defensible:
Flowers can positively influence mood, reduce feelings of stress, and their fragrance can become an emotional memory anchor.
Perfume makes you smell beautiful.
Flowers can make you feel beautiful.
